"Dear Friends,

Here is one way I found to be in service and to improve my health. I signed up to train for a marathon while helping to fund research for cures, medication and financial assistance to those afflicted with cancer.

Some of you may already be aware that I am training for my first full marathon this October with Team in Training. I have already completed two half-marathons, and yesterday, Saturday, Aug. 18th, I completed a long, slow run of 15 miles with my team! I'm getting closer, and am only six (6) weeks away from the full Marathon! Whoa! This from someone who hadn't run since high school!

As I continue to train, I also continue to fund raise for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to honor my Uncle Alexander Santos, Sr. who succumbed to blood cancer. I don't know why he kept it secret for 10 years, but no one in the family knew. His immediate family did and kept his secret as he visited his doctors. Finally, he couldn't battle on anymore and so his kids threw him one last big birthday bash! I am ever so glad that I attended that party and danced the samba with him one last time. I don't understand why the secret. Is it a Cape Verdean thing? Are we too proud? Or are the men too proud? I heard later that he didn't want to be treated any differently nor to make people worry and to be sympathetic all the time around him. So, now, I honor his memory by training and fund raising on his behalf. I hope you will help out if you can.

I am so very close to my goal of $2200.00! Click on the link to learn more! Cut and paste the link below to see pictures and to donate.

I would be honored if you would support me by making a donation to Team In Training and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. so any contribution you make is a GREAT help!
I hope you'll visit my web site often. Maybe you'll even be inspired t start a new physical activity, appreciate your health and your life, or even join Team in Training to honor someone you know who is living with cancer, or battled it. Please forward this on to anyone you think might be interested in saving lives. And ask about matching gifts if you work for a large company.
