Ildo Lobo: A Voz Creoula, by Yara dos Santos, is the title of a book that's been recently published. Ildo Lobo in case you don't know is one of most popular Cape Verdean singers of all time. He recently passed away. He was a native of Sal, the island where until recently, the only international airport was located, the
Aeroporto International Amilcar Cabral. Ildo lobo was a natural singing talent. He could sing in morna with the finesse of Cesaria Evora and the grandeur of Bana. Likewise when he sang in Funana, he sang with the vivacity of Zeca di Nha Renalda and the relentness of Chando Graciosa. In all the genres he sang, Ildo shined like a singing star that he was. The author of this post was a big fan of Ildo Lobo. Moreover, the author of this post as well as the author of the book, Yara dos Santos, needless to say, were extremely saddened when Ildo Lobo prematurely passed away three years ago.
Ildo Lobo is the tall one with the white shirt.
This book is written in portuguese so if you're not fluent in that language you might have to wait until the English translation version comes out. Perhaps I will translate myself, because the english speaking world does need to be exposed to this phenomenal CV musician who's adored by all Cape Verdeans regardless of their island of origin or their political persuations. In Ildo Lobo, the Cape Verdean people, saw raw talent, that is, amazing singing ability, the kind of music skill that comes from above, from God.
The author of the book

Yara dos Santos, a young writer and a native of Praia, Santiago Island, who has a degree in corporate communication, and who's written three other books prior to this one, goes into extensive details about Ildo Lobo's entire lifetime, Ildo as a child, Ildo as a teenager, Ildo as a young adult, and Ildo as a musician. Family members, friends and acquaintances of Ildo while he was alive were very helpful to Yara dos Santos with their first hand memories of this first class CV musician. Similarly, the written biographical records about Ildo Lobo from the Cape Verdean newspaper
O Horizonte were helpful to Yara dos Santos. All in all, this very well written and poetically toned book, is a must-read book for anybody who's a fan or student of Cape Verdean music.
