Hello, Maybe i do not know... but besides Paulo Barros title... what has he done really........... i know he runs the program but i haven't seen anything else more than that.... i am not trying to say he is not doing a good job.. but i am not actually sure he deserves "the man of the year" and what are the categories of man of the year anyways...........

I thinks David got what he deserved............... this award should not stop anyone from recognizing who they think are doing a good work...... write to political figures and let them know.....

shouldn't ppl working for youth be a role model in all cases???? I mean all cases and also have training to do so.............

I understand that Mr. Soares' accomplishments are global. I also think it is sad to say that local role model can only go so far and that it does not reach or impact generations across the board. It may only be in Boston, New Bedford, Pawtucket, East Providence etc., but if someone such as Mr. Barros is helping our youths by being their role model and giving them other choices in their lives, they should be acknowledged because they are helping our future, our children. We are losing youths to gang violence, jail. Parents are losing their sons and you don't think that has a global impact. With each death or each imprisonment is a loss of our race. What are we teaching our youths if we send the message that accomplishments that impact locally is not as important then one that impacts us globally. If we have more Cape Verdeans help our youths as Mr. Barros have we can have many of David Soars in our future.

If you read carefully, you would notice that I am not being negative. Mr. Soares deserves great respect. So do not judge. I am Cape Verdean but please do not judge me as negative or as competitive because you do not know me. So avoid generalizing. If you think that negativity and competitivness is Cape Verdeans' essential problems then you are so mistaken. Our problems are much deeper.

The problem is not whether or not David Soares or Denise Gonsalves won the award. The problem is how the awards were given out and voted on. There was clear corruption on both votes. People can argue until whenever about David Soares reaching a global audience. That statement simply is not true. I would then ask how did Denise win it if she is local and not international. Is the Woman of the Year award local? Maybe Denise and David both deserved to win the award. Too bad that the voting process for both was corrupted and we will never know the truth. Last year the Dutch leader of the far right party should have won it based on the criteria that's being mentioned. Does anyone remember him?

Move on criolos. We have much more serious sutff to worry about than starting another rivalry and argument over someone's lost or winning of an election.
