We have a Cape Verdean Mayor in East Providece, RI, a city that Cape Verdeans relocated to recently, in the last 50 years or so. Most of the CVs from East Providence emanate from Fox Point, Providence. When Brown University took over "the point", most of the CVs were forced to relocate across the river.
Now, my point is, if a CV can be elected Mayor in East Providence, why can't one be elected in New Bedford, MA, too? After all, after more than two hundred years of living in New Bedford, there should have been a CV New Bedford by now. But that's not the case, and I really think it's about time. What are your thoughts?

Definitely!
And my choice go for Joseph "Jojo" Fortes, the city councilor in New Bedford. He's smart, has energy and the grive for the job.

Go Jojo Exclamation Idea

We are not sure on the correct numbers Of Caboverdianos in New Bedford
many CV'S pass for what is so-called White or Black others are counted as Portuguese. The best we can give as a number is about 20 thousands too 25 thousands perhaps more. We have many intermarriages among the CV population many times the census is difficult because there no place for CV'S. There are groups that are trying to change this,we are a long way off for making the correction. Most of the time when they see a Portuguese name they mark them down as being that.
Recently in the Standard Time the series called A Nossa Vida created a storm because they said all Caboverdianos are Portuguese. It was about the immigrant population. What we do know is that Caboverdianos are the largest so-called minority in New Bedford with the Latinos or Hispanic given CV's a run for their money. Thats all I can tell you friend. Perhaps one summer day next year on a Sunday they should ask for all CV's to meet at a park lets get some idea or a sample.

Although it looks like the Cape Verdeans are under counted in N. Bed., according to your input, there is a strong number of us there to elect a a good mayor of our choice. All we need to do is team up with other minority communities such as Latinos and non-Cape Verdean African Americans, and the liberal and open-minded whites who are willing to support and give their vote of confidence to a smart and promising minority candidate. And the rest will be history.

We need to foster and promote the spirit of an stronger civic and political activism across the entire Cape Verdean community. In the meantime, we can give the current and newly elected Mayor a chance to prove himself that he really cares about the issues we face by implementing real changes. But if things stay the same by the 3/4 of his mandate, we should invest on Jojo Fortes and organize a strong grassroot campaign that can lead him to be the next Mayor of N. Bed., like the one that helped elected Deval Patrick.

What do the CVs in New Bedford think about this?

THE BIGGEST VOTE GETTER WHO IS A CV IS BRIAN GOMES,AND TO BE HONEST WITH YOU I DON'T THINK THAT THERE IS ENOUGH REGISTERED CV TO PUT HIM OVER THE TOP. HE WOULD NEED MORE THEN CV VOTES HE WOULD NEED ALL OF NEW BEDFORD.

BRIAN GOMES HAS BEEN CONSULOR AT LARGE FOR MANY YEARS HAS RECIEVED AS MUCH AS 14K VOTES AT ONE TIME.

A PERSON HAS TO BE ABLE TO HELP THE CITY AND ALL OF ITS PEOPLE AND THEY MUST KNOW THAT HE WILL ,HE WOULD NOT BE CALLED A CV MAYOR BUT THE MAYOR OF NEW BEDFORD
BEING MAYOR IS NOT A FUN JOB,PEOPLE ARE NEVER SATISFIED,THEY CAN ALWAYS FIND FAULT AND YOU CAN NEVER DO ENOUGH FOR THEM.

NEW BEDFORD HAS HIDDEN WEALTH,BUT YOU CAN SEE THE POOR.
NEW BEDFORD IS IN BETWIXT AND BETWEEN AND IS STILL LOOKING FOR IT'S GLORY DAYS TO COME FROM THE PAST TO THE FUTURE;THERE ARE GREAT POSSIBILITIES. FOR NOW NEW BEDFORD IS STILL IN THE BELLY OF THE WHALE Rolling Eyes
