the CV community, or how CV community
has a problem. This problem is an AMERICAN
problem. These youth happen to live where
some of these issues and one of them being
violence is a way of life. CV parents or CVs in
general are not the ones bring guns and drugs
to these neighborhoods. So let us not blame

I have been listening to violence in the minority poor community for at least 60 years long before the Caboverdiano became a explosive population in the last 40 years. When I lived in Boston from the 40's to the present time. It was the colored community ie Negro,black or today African American community. Caboverdiano's are now feeling the brunt of crime which has always been as american as apple pie Cv's are but a slice of that pie. I will take some issue with your assessment in general about guns and drugs and crime. Some Caboverdianos are involved in this criminal activity.
They may be small in numbers but they who are doing it, is in it for the money. Look around at the ones who don't work a job and are driving the most expensive automobiles and diamonds in their ears and a pocket full of money and ride around alot and spend more time in and out of the bars and clubs playing the game on our young woman and young men who sell or hold on to there stuff and their peice. Soprano style. Cv Mafia.

Your right the average CV is hard working and good people who are victims of the crooks that in kreolu we call (lar-dron). the same ones when they get busted are sent back to Cabo Verde.

This of course in through out the USA in Big cities,I have live in NY,Philly,and Detoit and chicago only thing there are not any CV'S in those cities of any great numbers so they don't control any turf,but in Boston area the fight is along tribal lines and turf. CV's versus American Negro (Black) and all the other crooks and thugs that float in the hood. some of them are doing so well they are able to pay protection money even to the cops on the street. Been there seen it all.

You want a real eye opener,and i know most of you won't do it because we are Roman Catholics but I will tell you this go and visit the Nation of Islam at Grove Hall some Sunday at 2pm and hear
Minister Don Muhammad.
He will tell you what it is all about.

I am also a Proud CV from the old school. As we say Return To The Source that source in the truth of what Amilcar Cabral try to teach us and what the true Jesus is about in conduct. New Bedford just had a Caboverdian woman shot to death,shot six times
the story has been in the New Bedford Standard Times and in the Boston Globe. This young woman American born 49 years young Bernadette DePina better known as Bunny to her friends and family.

This young sister was very involved with the youth group of 3 Pyramids
and for the independence of Cabo Verde and Guinea Bissau as a teen.

Mrs DePina was a very active member of O.LO.A. The first CV Catholic Church in the USA.

It is alleged that the killing was an act of revenge.

Another crime in the Cv community. Dorchester,New Bedford,Brockton or any CV community. Another killing, WHY?

How do we stop this senseless killing ?

To say we are devestated over these horrific gang style murders is to say the least. What is it that is missing in our daily lives that would cause such behavior?

WE KNOW THAT CRIME BASED ON POVERTY WHICH BREEDS CONTEMPT
DRUGS IN WHAT EVER FORM CAUGHT UP IN A SOPRANO GANG LIFE STYLE. AGAIN WE ASK THE QUESTION?

PARENTING? LANGUAGE BARRIER? A CULTURE OF VIOLENCE?

WHAT IS MISSING FROM OUR PSYCHE?

HOW DO WE PREVENT OUR CHILDREN FROM FALLING INTO THIS MODE OF VIOLENCE AND CRIME?

WE HAVE ALL THESE SOCIAL AGENCIES,WE HAVE THE CHURCH,WE HAVE THE SCHOOLS WE HAVE MENTORS. SO AGAIN WE ASK WHAT IS MISSING?

NO; IT IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO SAY WE NEED GOD IN OUR LIVES
FOR MOST OF THE PEOPLE INVOLVED BELONG TO A CHURCH WEAR A CROSS AROUND THEIR NECK A TATOO OF JESUS ON THEIR BODY.

GOING TO A CHURCH IS NOT ENOUGH;IT IS, WHAT IS NOT BEING TAUGHT AT THESE CHURCHES OR INSTITUTIONS.

SOME TIMES THEY GO TO CHURCH BEING HIGH OR HUNG OVER TAKEN
HOLY COMMUNION. SO AGAIN THE QUESTION WHAT IS REALLY MISSING?

IT APPEARS WHAT WE THINK IS CULTURE IS SONG AND DANCE AND BEING MERRY UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF INTOXICANTS THE EXHILARATION OF EXCITEMENT OF THE MIND OR EMOTIONS.

IT IS NOT MUSIC & DANCE THAT IS THE REAL PROBLEM THAT IS PART OF OUR CULTURE IT IS THE KIND OF MUSIC AND DANCE.

IT IS A LACK OF DISCIPLINE OF BEHAVIOR THAT BEGINS AT HOME AND THAT SHOULD BE TAUGHT AT SCHOOL AND OUR HOUSES OF WORSHIP WHICH HAVE FALLEN SHORT.

FOR THE CABOVERDIANO COMMUNITY WHAT WE THINK IS MISSING IS A CULTURAL CENTER WITH SPIRITUAL VALUES BASED ON CONDUCT AND GOOD CHARACTER.

WE ARE DRIVEN BY NEGATIVE FORCE AND MATTER. CHARACTER IS ONE OF THE MOST PRECIOUS ASSETS OF THE SPIRIT.

TELEVISION,MOVIES,PORNOGRAPHY,FILTHY TALK. ETC

WHY DO WE REBEL AGAINST THE DISCIPLINE OF DEUS,ALLAH OR JESUS
OR BUDDHA.

YES WE KNOW THE WORLD IS CAUGHT UP INTO THE EVIL

IS THERE SOMETING WE CAN DO TO CHANGE THIS AROUND?

EDUCATION. WHAT KIND OF EDUCATION?

I AM EXHAUSTED WITH THIS BITTERNESS OF VIOLENCE.

WHY NOT SOME SUNDAY MORNING GO TO HEAR MINISTER DON MUHAMAD AT GROVE HALL PERHAPS WE CAN LEARN SOMETHING FROM THEM AND APPPLY SOME OF IT TO OUR HISTORY AND CULTURE.

WELL IT IS SAID THAT A WISE MAN WILL CRAWL INTO A CAVE FOR WISDOM AND THERE PLACE IS NOT A CAVE BUT A VERY HUMBLE HOUSE OF LEARNING AND WISDOM AND ENLIGHTENMENT.

JUST MAYBE WE CAN TAKE A PAGE FROM THEIR BOOK.

NOTHING BEATS A FAILURE BUT A TRY.
