This is a good topic so here are my 2 cents.

Since the woman is the face of all cultures, and since Santiago island is the berso da caboverdianidade, the badia then, would be the face of Cape Verdianitity. This being said, this picture of a badia entrepreneur, is an ideal example of a popular image of Cape Verdianity.

The volcano is what we have seen the most of in days gone by and the
Volcano is what we remember for every ship that left Furna or Nova Sintra. Remebered for its power of Fire(Lumi) Fogo the stove of Fire.
A Mighty Fotress of Deus. Djha-Fogo de Azijah The first to be seen going and coming. What a site. What we can tell you is what we wanted was the ear of corn so we could eat. For we were starving to death. That is why we left our home. The volcano represents the fortitude of the people of Azijah Cabo Verde.
The corn is a necessity of life.(Vida)
It also represents our hour of time too Harvest (Kulyetta) our people.
To take them in as we would of the food we eat.
The corn or the volcanic mountain?
What we must bring into the equation what about what was seen by the people who lived in St.Antao from another direction and St Antao has a beauty second to none when you have been up it's mountains.
There is so much beauty to be found in Cabo Verde Azijah.
