Can you share with us your thoughts on Gil Fernandes, former confidante of the late Amilcar Cabral and international representative of the PAIGC?

It was I, Kakau, that posted this post about Gil Fernandes. I read about him in the Historical Dictionary of Cape Verde a couple of days ago. And since I also recal you mentioning him before, I figured I might as well ask you specifically about him. On that note, please do share with us more about this interesting freedom fighter, Gil Fernandes.[/quote

There is not much more to say about Gil that I know of.
At one point he was Ambassador in Egypt.
Gil was a combatant and he got hurt in a jeep accident if I remember correctly. He spoke English like an American and he was on top of his game. He traveled a great deal with Amilcar. Spent a lot of time in Europe
and in the states. Did a lot of work in South Africa and other countries around the world.Knew his way around Boston like a trooper. I have not seen Gil in more then 30 years.
Hey Gil if you read this give us a shout. Gil was real cool and knew his way around. Amilcar Cabral sent him to visit with us in Duxbury at the III

Manu Salah, what happened to the founding members of the III Pyramids organization? What are they doing now?

You know, Manu Salah, the days of Cabo Verde liberation movement must have been a very exciting time for you. You were, after all, the chief soldier of the important PAIGC-USA Support committee. But in any case, allow me to get a little more intimate by asking you some personal questions.

Question (1) In the pre-PAIGC decades, 40's and 50's, did you identify as Cabo Verdiano or Portuguese? Say for instance, when you were having fights with American Negro kids in Boston, did you say "I'm Cape Verdean" or "I"m portuguese" and did they reply with "you ain't portuguese, you're a colored, a negro?"

Question (2) What were your experiences with the yanbabs(white portuguese) like when growing up in Wareham, Boston and New Bedford?

Question (3) In your days as a "black muslim" did you feel guilt for not reaveling your Cabo Verdiano origins to your peers?

Question (4) What identity did your parents encourage you to adhere to, creole(CV), portuguese or merikanu di kor(American negro)
