É assim que se nota nas opiniões e olhares de muitos dirigentes, treinadores, futebolistas e adeptos que conhecem o futebol local (Brockton, Boston, Rhode Island) sobre este jogo que terá lugar no dia 27 de Agosto no Gillette Stadium em Foxboro.

”Olhem, estou farto de ver tanta injustiça, tanta mafia, tanta aldrabice, tanta manipulação, tanto amiguismo, no mundo de futebol. Aquela bola redonda traz muita emoção, alegria, euforia, mas também muita dor, sofrimento, e angústia. Sou jogador e eu sou um deles que aguenta tudo.” Comenta um dos jogadores que era esperado por muitos como um dos seleccionados.

“Porque é que não mudaram o título “Emigrantes vs. Brazilian All-Stars” já que os treinadores e a maioria dos jogadores são sempre dos Emigrantes?” Comenta um treinador que, na sua opinião, devia ser ele o treinador e não o Manecas Almeida e os seus adjuntos dos Emigrantes.

“Olha, os melhores jogadores não foram seleccionados e isso foi uma vendetta contra eles. Na Selecção De Txakóta há os meninos bonitos e há os outros”, diz um outro dirigente.

Perguntei-lhe quem, na sua sua opinião, ficou por fora da selecção. Hesitou um segundo e disse: “Primeiro, o erro mais grave que fizeram foi não seleccionar o melhor jogador meio-campista da NELASA…”

Sabes porquê?”
Porquê? Não queria esconder a minha curiosidade. “Olha, não estás cego, pois não. Nenhum jogador do Fogo foi selecionado. São todos de São Vicente e de Praia. Engraçado ainda é que o treinador nem sequer selecionou o melhor jogador do Emigantes porque, como já disse, é do Fogo e ele não gosta dele. A meu ver, acho que eles são regionalistas e divisionistas…”

Olha, quem ganha com isso é a equipa de Revolution que exige à comissão organizadora deste evento para venderem 5 a 10 mil bilhetes antes de tocarem os pés no relvado do Foxboro. Isso é mais do que exploração e nada fazem para ajudar a gente. Portanto, ignorante são os que são enganados e explorados pela equipa de Revolution.”

My name is Bibi and I'm a player and member of the board for Emigrantes. I take offense to some of the insulting and unfounded comments made about Emigrantes in the article as well as the "Post a Reply" board. The selection team has nothing to do with Emigrantes. It's is unfortunate that people make misleading statements and comments without having all of the information. It's a shame that Mr. Andrade who claims to be a leader and a fan of Cape verdean Soccer to write such article without getting all the facts. Mr. Andrade, were you involved in any of the meetings held to discuss the purpose and goal of the selection team? You had an opportunity to nominate a coach or yourself if you so chose, did you do that? Are you aware that there was a nomination and selection process for the coach and it had nothing to do with Emigrantes? Please get your facts straight before you go on and on making irresponsible comments about things you know very little about. For your information the coach was selected by a committee of community members which did not include any members of Emigrantes. Manecas was selected as the coach, I assume because he was the best candidate.

This is an opportunity for the community to rally behind some of the best young soccer talent in our community and it should be used as such. I’m not the coach and I have not seen the official list of players selected. I agree that Zidane is a tremendous talent and worthy of being selected for the team. However, the fact of the matter is, every selection team that has been put together in history of soccer, worthy players have been left out. You don’t have to go far to find other examples. Was Quaresma the best player in Portuguese soccer? Yet he did not make the world cup team! Do you think a player like Giuly should have made the French world cup team? These things happen at the highest level, and yet in your article you make it seem as though it only happens here in our community. This selection team is not about Emigrantes, Fidjos Terra, Tabanka, Unidade, Spiga Midju or any other team. It is about Jorge Fidalgo and his legacy and we should view it as such and do what we can to ensure it is a success. It is time we unite and do something positive for our community. Constructive criticism is Ok, but there is a place and time for it.

Let me give you an example: Look what happened to the Capeverdean Association of Brockton after I made it public 3 years ago about their corruption and mismanagement and, at the same time, I asked the Board to resign immediately or else… It did happen within a week. Today, the Capeverdean citizens thank me wherever I go. Because of my guts, Moses Rodrigues is where he is right now, and I’m still waiting for his “Thank You” letter. Tell him to read this.

I never complained about the Emigrantes team or coach Manecas. I’ve known Manecas for almost 30 years and I played with him when PIC Park was just dogs’ running field. We build that field little by little; we scooped that ground until it looked like a rectangle field…

Manecas was a great player and he’s a great coach. Don’t try to come with your dirty old tricks, Bibi. Emigrantes is no longer in NELASA (now playing in a 5 team league), because of your arrogant, undemocratic attitude. You didn’t want to see Fidjos Terra in the NELASA because they failed to pay the fees on time, and you quit when the Delegates voted to keep Fidjos Terra in the League. You made that decision to leave NELASA without the consent of Emigrantes’ players. That’s how “democratic” you are! Shame on you! And why didn’t you tell Valdir Alves that when you made it public?

I would never complain about the Emigrantes. I am one of the Founders of the Emigrantes! Do you need proof? Ask Manuel Nogueira (de Patim), e Manuel Monteiro (Nênê de Fidjo), the Founding Members. Together, we found the team. We used to play with the Associação Caboverdiana-Americana, later we split and decided to have our own team. Morgado and Manuel Fonseca “Mané Capitão”, who had just arrived from Portugal, joined us and later the team was changed from its original name “VULCÃO” to Emigrantes das Ilhas de CV. This is no secret and now you know the rest of the story …(as if you don’t know).
Again, for the record, the three founding members of the Emigrantes team are:
Joaquim Manuel Andrade, Manuel Nogueira (de Patim), e Manuel Monteiro (Nênê de Fidjo).

The players, coaches, administrators, and the public have their opinion. Do you have a problem with that? Why were players like Narciso (the only real professional around who made it to the MLS, remember?), Zorro, Zidane, Já, Zico, Carotcha, Adilson, and many top quality players left out? Simple! The people expressed their opinion and they have their right to do that. And they are being heard. And so are the people of Boston and the Jorge Fidalgo’s family.

Those young players you’re talking about also play for the Emigrantes on a part-time basis, although they are presently with Nos Bandera, and Valter Xavier (Fidjos Terra). Therefore, the Emigrantes have 10 players on the team, not 5! So, don’t try to fool people who are aware of what’s going on!Remember, I speak for the LITTLE PEOPLE. You act as a big shot (although you’re not) and I can’t speak for you!

We can still shake hands. After all, we are Foguense and we have “hot blood”. Or don’t we?

Aquilo aconteceu e o presidente também tinha pedido demissão do seu cargo. Ouvi que muitos compraram casas e mais casas, e muitos foram passar ferias em Florida e Cabo Verde com o dinheiro do povo. Agora parece que a associaçãoo está melhor.

As most of us know, the Revolution team is interested in their pocket only. They want the organization to sell 5,000 to10,000 tickets in order for the all-star teams to step on the Foxboro’s field. They did last year and they did it the year before...

Do we call this partnership? What are they going to do with all of the revenues? The answer is clear. The Revolution is the one laughing all the way to the bank and the Jorge Fidalgo’s organization will be left with empty hands.

Concerned with this situation, I kept thinking on what I could do to help the Jorge Fidalgo’s organization. Hence, I came up with a few suggestions presented below:

1) Play the game at South Boston field, White Stadium (by Franklin Park), Northeastern, or B.U. I am sure that the organization will get one of these fields for free.

2) Mayor Menino’s Office could even provide the police and security personnel to this event, free of charge.

RATIONALE:

a) All revenues will go to the organization.
b) All Capeverdeans will be happy to attend this event.
c) We’ll be happy that the Revolution will no longer take advantage of us.
d) We can say proudly that we did something right for a just cause.
e) We’ll have a chance to unite Capeverdeans and Brazilians in many future events.

3) Have a big dinner/dance party celebration at a Dorchester/Roxbury function hall, with Brazilian and Capeverdean music, while presenting the trophies to both teams.
4) Have Consulate representatives of both countries to honor the participants.

RATIONALE:

a) Soccer, food, music, dance, and friendship can be shared by both countries.
b) Appreciation by those who made it possible.
c) Capeverdean and Brazilians will be seen as good people, not just “immigrants”.
d) Better efficiency and effectiveness.
e) Unite people from different countries each year.

As you can see, Mr. Tom Lopes, a well-known Capeverdean-American
entrepreneur is eager to help the Jorge Fidalgo's cause. Now, I am
asking this Board to please, consider this with open arms. All the
fields in Boston can fill 10,000 people or more easily. Time is on our
side. We have more than a month to accomplish this endeavor.

Dear Mr. Raposo,

President of NELASA

The Spiga Midju team went to play at Pavão field on Saturday for the Cup
qualifying and we were extremely disappointed by both linesmen including
the referee himself, who was close to sending me out for complaining to
him about the poor officiating by the linesmen. Indeed, within 10
minutes of the game, three of our players sustained bad ankle injuries
and never played the game again, because of dangerous fouls (1 could
have been clearly a red card and a penalty) and 2 yellows. Nothing happened…

Some of the NB Sports players were very disrespectful using foul
languages such as “fuck”, “son of a bitch”, “shit head”, “bullshit” and
“ass hole” and the referee and the linesmen simply ignored. Two of their
players even called my players as “You fucking blacks can suck it up!”
and the referee, again, acted as if nothing happened.

NB Sports scored three clearly OFF SIDE goals by a mile…. and the
linesman on the opposite side giving “two thumbs up” to his buddy for
making the “right call”…

I, as a referee, (8 years) affiliated with the US Soccer and the EMSOA,
I felt humiliated and disgusted by such action, because I’ve never seen
a linesman applauding another for a “call” weather it was right or wrong!

At that point, I felt that we had enough. As an excuse, I told the
referee that we would leave within five minutes because I had the
Senior’s game at 2:15 PM although it was all covered by my assistant
coach. So, we left with 35 minutes remaining in the game.

In the parking lot, one of my players was almost run over by a NB Sports
player-driver. It was a sport’s convertible with four players in it. And
they said loudly, “Let’s run him over!”, burning tires at full speed -
and they could almost have killed the young player if another player
hadn’t pull him to the side.

When I asked the coach (who also saw it clearly, because he and his
assistants were at the side fence), one of his assistants just took
charge and said, “he’s a black kid anyway!” Meaning that he’s not worth
of living, therefore he should be killed.

We knew that they out-numbered us by 3-1 thus, we got in the car and left.

I can’t speak for all the kids in Brockton but, the ones I have playing
on Spiga Midju team are good kids, drug-free, and no danger to anyone.
Therefore, they deserve respect and consideration. Nothing less!

Shame on a coach and his assistants, who didn’t have much to instill in
some those young NB Sports’ players! And shame on the three Portuguese
referees who, obviously, wanted their counterpart to win the game and
didn’t comply with soccer rules!

This is sad because neither the President of NELASA, nor the
Vice-President or the coordinator were present to witness "the seen, the
unseen, the mistery and the unknown..."

I rest my case.

Bibi is right you should get your facts straight. Emigrantes plays in a 6 team league and not five as you pointed out. Besides, it's better to play in a 6 competitive team intestead of playing in LASA with teams like Spiga Midju. You're a joke!!!!! Dinamo also left LASA to play in the other league. They were lasa champions last year, but they're at the bottom of the other league. What does that say about LASA uh? Stop hatting on Emigrantes. You make absolute no sense. You talked about all these players who are on the team and although are currently playing for other teams that they're still Emigrantes Players. Then you go on to list a number of other players who should have made the team as well. Are you aware that most of those players have played for Emigrantes as well? Get a life. Maybe one day if you get a real tema people will start taking you serious. Jokestar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let it be known to everyone that, three years ago, when Tiago Monteiro was the Emigrantes coach, he left the team because of internal problems, and founded Juventude that same year. At the same time, he took along with him 13 players leaving Emigrantes with 4 players!

With five games remaining in the NELASA season, I had no choice but to QUIT the League that year. But, miraculously the unexpected happened. God was on our side.

On a Tuesday, I was about to go to the NELASA League’s Office in New Bedford to officially forfeit all the remaining games, then I decided to stop to see Spiga Midju’s practice and they had just finished their season CASL and they were champions! I told Dr. Azágua that we no longer were going to compete in the League because Tiago took all the players and left us with no other choice.

Dr. Azágua told me not to go to the NELASA League and that his team was available to the Emigrantes from that day on, since they had finished the season. What a luck!

Alex (keeper), Raúl, Edir, Hélio, Adi Sousa, Niu, Sousa, Tó Afonso, Sopan, Tony Antunes, João Antunes, ALL came to the rescue (AS STARTERS) and, most of them are still with us today.

That weekend against Tabanka, we won the game 1-0 at home. And what a game! PIC Park was filled! Dr. Azágua was carried from one end of the field to the other because many people thought that the game was Tabanka vs. Spiga Midju! A lot of people still call that team “SPIGRANTES”.

To this day, I must confess one thing:

Dr. Azágua is, indeed, a TRUE Emigrantes; not just as the founder but also as the savior of this team. Today, we can only look back for the good memories.

We can proudly say that you have the GOLD KEY to the Emigrantes team.
