The National men's and women's basketball teams of Cape Verde will play their Irish counterparts on March 24th, 2007, at the Dunkin’ Donuts center, also - highly appropriately for basketball - known as the Dunk, in Providence, RI, which seats nearly 11,000, Cape Verde will take on Ireland in international competition!
There will be two games: women’s and men’s, and a chance for fans to get autographs from team members prior to the game, plus special events and prizes for kids.
There will be, Friday, March 23rd, a VIP Gala events. Entertainment will include top artists from both countries, and may include Maria de Barros!
United States Senator Sheldon Whitehouse will be the Honorary Coach for Cape Verde. His Irish counterpart is RI Attorney General Patrick Lynch. AG Lynch happens to be a former pro basketball player himself, and has two siblings: a sister, and brother Bill, the head of the RI Democratic party who played pro ball too, with Bill even briefly playing for the National Team of Ireland! Pawtucket Mayor James E. Doyle, a longtime friend to the Cape-Verdean community, is a member of the committee, and will suit up, along with CACD leader Romana Ramos, Strive 4 5/SF2 Co-Founder Lorenzo Perry, and other community leaders in a ‘celebrity’ pre-game event prior to the real game.
So, it promises to be a very exciting event on many levels. If you would like to attend, assist the Organizing Committee, provide services, or find out more info, just E-mail Dan Klotz: dan@cvhoops. com or visit the website cvhoops.com
